The Seguin River Monsters kicked off their inaugural 2022 campaign in Victoria, TX as they took down the Victoria Generals 8-3.
#18 Landen Morrison, who started in right field, stepped into the box for the River Monsters first ever at bat where he wore a fastball right to the back, and didn’t rub it. Morrison eventually made his way around the bases and scored the River Monsters first run of a 4 run first inning. Rilan Quinones (1 for 4, RBI, 2R) drove in Jacob Elizondo (2-2, 2BBs, 2R) and then scored himself on a Raul Lopez sac fly. Lopez, who the Generals deemed the ‘Beer Batter’, went 2-5 with 2RBI and NO STRIKEOUTS, leaving the Generals fans paying full price for beer all night. Frankie Martinez (2 for 4, RBI, 2R) capped off the 1st with and RBI single driving in Jacob Ruiz. Ruiz had himself a night at the dish going 4 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Seven River Monsters batters had an RBI in an effort by the entire lineup.
After the ‘Sters made noise in the top of the 1st, it was all Matthew Johnson from there. MJ, from Hillsborough CC in Florida, went 5 scoreless and hit less frames with 7 Ks for the Win. Matt had it all working and was blowing his fastball by Generals hitters. Seguin added runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and an insurance run in the 9th on Victor Jimenez RBI single. Jack Lopez came into the game for Matt Lopez and despite giving up a HR pitched 3 strong innings before handing it off to Dave Wilson to shut it down in the 9th.
The River Monsters return to action today, Wednesday, June 1st for their home opener at Smokey Joe field in Seguin at 7:05! Get your tickets here: seguinrivermonsters.com/tickets
